Like most kids from the ’80s, I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I’d be lying if I said this is the direction I desperately wanted new Star Wars content to take. I mean, after the disappointment of the sequel trilogy and so much else – all of Disney’s live-action content, except for Andor, Rogue One and the first two seasons of Mando, I’d rate as mediocre to bad – I’m only interested in good, mature, epic Star Wars content. Give me a show like Andor, set in the Old Republic, with Jedi, Sith and Nick Gillard as a stunt coordinator for the lightsaber battles. It’s not offensive or poorly made; not obviously cheap like The Book of Boba Fett; not pointless like Mando season 3; not news-making like the sequels and Kenobi; not tone-deaf like The Acolyte. Hurray? This is basically Star Wars Goonies, a nice story about a bunch of kids having an adventure in the Star Wars universe. The writing is decent so far (from episode 4 onwards): the effects, costumes and locations look great: everything has a certain charm. I suspect this, similar to Andor, is a passion project for its creators and was seen as a minor side project by the higher-ups, who therefore didn’t bother to get involved, which in this day and age in Lucasfilm is a blessing. So far, so good. 7.5/10.. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our December calendar for more!
