Story
A family of ranchers in Montana is dealing with others encroaching on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget”; he loses his mountain accent and goes back to the Southern California speaking voice he normally uses.

His way of life is influenced by resort developers, tribal rights and the authority of the state of Montana. Reminiscent of Rock Hudson from “Giant,” he tries to hold on to the old ways. “Yellowstone” develops quickly and with few introductions, but its story unfolds at the natural pace of a day in the wilderness, with pauses for tribal rituals, cowboy conventions and political machinations.
The land and family are his blood
It’s a far-flung enterprise set at the intersection of law and justice, family and friends. Costner, it seems, takes on the role of the character naturally. He is a man tired of life, who has seen too much and lied too often.
Update 07/20/18: After four episodes, this series has a strong voice and a sustained pace
He can hear footsteps coming towards him, but he can only fulfill his role out of habit and loyalty. Even if some actions are a bit confusing due to the lack of explanation, it feels natural, as if the viewer is getting an authentic picture, a slice of life in another world. I hope that the resolution of this saga contains an emotional added value that justifies its scope and attention to detail.
