A modern tale of finding happiness in the world of oil rigs in West Texas

A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will be the middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They essentially manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build workers’ quarters (man camps), set up mining equipment, and drill their own wells, especially in remote locations.

They are also part fixer, problem solver, and facilitator. Mentioned on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). Billy Bob Thornton is welcome back in Texas since his Friday nights in 2006. The mood is Yellowstone and it’s a welcome series with a touch of reality vs. superheroes and fantasy.

Interesting people and stories

Based in the Permian Basin oilfield, great cast so far! We at Oilfield shake our heads at the inconsistencies in camp life and explosions/explosions. The technical errors in the first three episodes are embarrassing and their technical consultant screwed up the explosion scene. Old valve stuck, 24 inch pipe wrench (put on upside down and hammered in at the top? 100% wrong.

Need torque, without trying the puller tube first?

No hammer unless it was a brass hammer (i.e. no sparks)? No experience in the oil field downstream the team would have done it. Chaotic Technical Director Billy is then seen as the “Landman” trying to contain the explosion (I never saw a Landman on site). Experienced and puts the wrench upside down again and hits his finger?

Denis Leary and Ray Romano both starred in the Ice Age series (2002-present)

It tells the story of three very different families who compete to buy the same 1920s Spanish-style villa that they believe will solve all their problems. I was surprised to see the show rated as low as it is, but it made more sense when I saw several reviews explaining how they didn’t make it past the first episode.

I really like the cast and everyone’s performance

The show is a slow-burn mystery that may not be for everyone. I personally found it funny and entertaining with a Liz Feldman-esque tone that I like.

All the different characters have their own subplots, forming a tangled web of chaos that gradually unravels, though not completely

I wasn’t sold on Ray Romano at first due to my own preconceptions (I couldn’t tell him from Everybody Loves Raymond for the life of me), but that went away pretty quickly. By the last episode, I was pretty excited about the story, despite the fact that I got the main twist figured out very early on.

I’m not mad about it, though

I’d love to see more of this show, and I really hope they get a second season. No need to waste time scrolling endlessly – here’s the full lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.

And they succeed – visually

There are stunning visuals galore, from the photorealism of Crossfire to Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons to the more stylized world of Sifu. There’s violence aplenty, blood flows by the gallon, guts spill, creatures and people meet their brutal ends, and overall it’s bleak, with little to no humor. There’s a lack of coherence and meaning.

As hollow, instantly forgettable entertainment, it’s a hit
